Things moved quickly, once enough momentum had flowed into the world. The 20’s had started with a jingoist Trump, a global pandemic, a crypto explosion. The world stood at attention. For the first time in the history of mankind, we sat at the precipice of a connected human organism.

Decentralised Autonomous Organisations started forming, these DAO’s as they were colloquially called in the day introduced new modes of governance. New models of society that could provide alternative modes of existence.

Once the money started flowing from the gnarled withered hands of traditional finance into the hands of communities, it always seemed inevitable.

If we narrow our lens to a particular example that played out with increasing regularity over the course of the screaming twenties, the Arcadia DAO was the first to set the example.

A group of early blockchain adopters formed a subnet, on a popular blockchain called Avalanche. At that stage, it was fairly nascent technology. However the Arcadia DAO took an innovative approach to the burgeoning opportunities represented by the space. Once the subnet started becoming profitable, they funnelled the funds into buying physical land in a remote region of Southern Africa called the Transkei.

They made a deal with the local Xhosa chiefs there. In exchange for land, they would provide solar power, fish farms and permaculture centres. Schools would eventually follow, and then universities. Space ports came much later.

The local government, at that stage called the Republic of South Africa, soon got wind of this profit making endeavour and, decided to shut down the collective.

With the South African government determined to invade on the profitable DAO and plunder their profits, the Arcadian DAO approached a Legal DAO for legal aid. Kiff DAO had established a subnet on Avalanche that focused on providing global legal services to the underrepresented, focusing on impoverished nations.

A legal case was soon drafted to declare the the nation of Arcadia as a sovereign nation. Anyone could invest in the court case that believed in the Arcadian's cause.

The Twitterverse exploded. It was a global phenomenon, millions invested, from chai sellers on the streets of Delhi, to the steppes of Mongolia, to the Manhattan penthouse apartments.

The Arcadians won their sovereignty after 4 long years in court.

The world was forever changed…
